So, tomorrow I am officially becoming an adult. At least that is how I see it. . . purchasing a house is a significant rite of passage into adulthood, and I'm a little anxious but mostly excited and optimistic to be a homeowner. I've been a little nostalgic b/c the neighborhood my husband and I moved into when we first got to Milwaukee is where we've been for the past 1.5/2 years. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it and have continued to love it - The East Side. . . and I am going to miss it for many, many reasons. My husband and I had a conversation about what emotion weighs heavier right now - excitement over buying a new home or sadness to leave our current home. It's a toss-up. I know we won't regret it, but it's just another chapter in our lives that we are moving on to. Every day as I walk through my neighborhood I think about the things I'll miss and there's always something else...
I'm going to miss being able to walk 97 steps to Jo Cats. I'm going to miss late night karaoke parties post bar-time when it's -20 outside and nobody wants to go home yet. I'm going to miss our friends at the Dog Haus and Baxter's bar-time hot dogs. He's going to miss his bar-time hot dogs! I'm going to miss saxophone lullabies. I'm going to miss Peperoni Canoli. . . and all of the other Brady Street Characters - Lester, the seven foot tall gay black man (talk about forgetting stereotypes), and the 80s skateboarder that cruises around w/ his "boombox", the roaming harmonica player, the crazy Thurman's regular whose name I forget. . ., the man in a skirt, seeing my neighbor on his porch w/ a drink and a cigarette almost 24/7 no matter what the weather, all of our awesome neighbors who all look out for each other in very different ways, impromtu friend stop-bys, dog park in my back yard, lake runs, window shopping, being able to walk just about anywhere I want to go . . . I truly could go on and on.
I'm going to miss Brady street and all of it's quirkiness and constant crazy energy. The East Side will always have a little piece of my heart - thank you for making my first year in Milwaukee what it was!
I sure hope I can sleep in the peace and quiet.

Wisconsin
I am trying out this blogging thing... not telling anyone at first in case it's really lame or I never have time to write. Seeing as I have lived in Wisconsin for over a year now, I thought I should talk about why I love it here. So, here goes....I'm a big fan of top ten lists, and they are an easy way to break into blogging.
The top 10 reasons I love Milwaukee/Wisconsin:
10. Four Seasons and amazing summers. Okay so the winter was downright awful but supposedly this year's winter was a rarity and a record, at that. Regardless, summers here are unbeatable and possibly worth the frozen boogers, pale skin, slippery falls, and snow shoveling that comes with winter.
9. The Packers. Touchy subject right now but you gotta love how the entire state truly LOVES this team. I may have to report back on this one now that we are sans #4. . . sad, sad day in Dairyland. Maybe the state is more of a Brett Favre fan than Packers. . . To be determined.
8. The lake. Living close to water is priceless.
7. The East Side. Our almost "old" hood. The best neighborhood with the best bars in Milwaukee, by far.
6. Beer. Miller, Lakefront, Spotted Cow, PBR . . . you name it. Drinking beer is legitimately part of the culture in this state.
5. Dairy = cheese and custard. If you haven't had frozen custard, you need to. And cheese curds. Both little pieces of heaven in your mouth.
4. The State Fair. Cream puffs and any kind of fried anything on a stick you can imagine.
3. The people. The people here are just the salt of the earth- hard-working, good people who all know how to have a good time. Fun to "watch" too :)
2. Summerfest. And all the other outdoor activities and festivals that go on throughout the summer. Plus the almost-every day fireworks that come with them!
1. Summer. I know I already said 4 seasons but summer is just the absolute best part about this place. People come alive, the sidwalks are suddenly filled with cafe tables, and the city buzzes for 4 months straight. I still take sheer pleasure in being able to walk home from work in August without breaking a sweat. Ahhh....
And that's what I love about Wisconsin. I never thought I could come up with ten things I love about this place but I actually had a hard time narrowing it down! Who knew?
